Quick Answer
Press T on PC to toggle combat stance (called "Style" or "fighting stance"). You must be outdoors — indoor areas are Green Zones where combat is disabled. If attacks are not working, you are either in a Green Zone or forgot to press T.
How to Toggle Combat Mode
| Platform | Key / Button | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC | T | Default. Can be remapped in Settings. |
| Mobile | On-screen button | Check HUD layout in Settings. |
| Controller (Xbox) | Check mapping | No default shown on Trello — remap in Settings. |
Green Zones (Safe Zones)
Green Zones are indoor areas where combat stance is disabled. You cannot punch, block, or parry inside them. These are designed as safe social/RP spaces.

- Hallways (inside the school)
- Music Room
- Library

Troubleshooting
"I pressed T but nothing happens"
You are likely indoors. Walk outside to the courtyard or street and try again. Green Zones silently block combat stance.
"My attacks are not working"
Either you are in a Green Zone or forgot to press T first. Press T to confirm you are in stance, then try M1.
"I cannot use my phone during combat"
Exit combat stance (press T again) before opening phone apps. Phone and combat stance animations conflict.
"Combat stance toggles off randomly"
Some map transitions (walking through a door) automatically disable combat stance. Always re-press T after entering or exiting a building.
Why Green Zones Exist
Green Zones are not a bug or a missing feature — they are the design decision that makes a slice-of-life school game playable alongside a fighting game. Because the two halves of Gakuran share one map, the developers needed somewhere players can exist without being dragged into a scrap, so combat stance is simply unavailable indoors.
That single rule produces most of the social behaviour you see in a server. Classrooms, the library, the music room and the infirmary become places where characters can sit, play instruments or read without a fight breaking out. The courtyard, the streets and the sports areas are the opposite by design, which is why PvP concentrates there.
| If you want to… | Go to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fight without interruption | Courtyard, streets, sports area | Open combat zones with room to move and no stance restriction |
| Be left alone | Any indoor Green Zone | Attacks are impossible there for everyone, including your attacker |
| Use phone apps or instruments | Indoors | Phone and combat animations conflict, so the safe zones are also the practical ones |
| Escalate after a loss | Stay out of fights for a moment | A Green Zone is the neutral ground that ends a chase |
Stance Discipline: Three Habits Worth Building
Because stance is a toggle rather than an automatic state, a surprising share of lost fights are bookkeeping mistakes rather than bad decisions. These three habits remove most of them:
Re-arm after every transition
Treat every doorway, stairwell and map transition as an event that may have cleared your stance. Press T on the way out, the same way you would check a resource before walking into a fight.
Drop stance before you need your phone
Phone and combat animations conflict, so trying to open an app mid-stance reads as a failed input. Exit stance first, use the app, then re-enter. This matters most when you are trying to respond to a message while a fight is brewing.
Do not read a blocked attack as a bug
If nothing happens when you attack, the first question is "am I indoors?", not "is the game broken?". Confirm your zone before you start troubleshooting keybinds — the Green Zone explanation covers the majority of these reports.
Combat Stance Checklist

- ✓ Have you pressed T? (Your character should be in a ready pose)
- ✓ Did you recently enter/exit a building? (Press T again)
- ✓ Is your phone closed? (Alt to close it)
