Quick Answer
Open the left MENU → STATS. On the Personal Data screen, click the circular reroll icon next to FIRST NAME or LAST NAME. Both rerolls are free and unlimited.
Step-by-Step: Change Your Name
- Open the left MENU and select STATS.
- On the Personal Data screen, find FIRST NAME and LAST NAME.
- Click the circular reroll icon next to the one you want to change.
- Check your remaining rerolls at the top of the screen (name rerolls are free, so this stays full).
- Keep rolling until you land on a name you like.
First Name vs Last Name
| Field | How it rerolls | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Free-typed, 3-12 characters. Roll until you like it. | Free |
| Last Name | From a preset pool tied to your current ethnicity. Pool size depends on ethnicity. | Free |
Getting More Rerolls
Name rerolls never run out, so you do not need to farm them. If you came here for fighting-style rerolls, those are the ones that cost currency:
- Redeem active codes from the CODES tab (free style rerolls).
- Buy reroll packs with Robux from the Personal Data screen.
- Receive gift rerolls (added v7.400) sent by other players.
Two Reroll Systems, Two Very Different Costs
Gakuran uses the word "reroll" for three separate systems that share nothing except the iconography. Mixing them up is how players waste the one resource that actually costs money:
| Reroll | Cost | Affects gameplay? | How to treat it |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Name | Free, unlimited | No — cosmetic only | Experiment freely; nothing is at stake |
| Last Name (clan) | Free, unlimited | Yes — this is where your passive buffs live | Reroll with a target, not at random |
| Fighting style | Paid — Robux or free code spins | Yes — your whole toolset | The scarce one. Redeem codes before spending Robux |
The practical consequence is that you should never feel anxious about your name. Both name fields are free to reroll as many times as you like, so a name you regret costs you nothing to replace. The only resource worth protecting is the style reroll — which is why our reroll guide spends its time on that and not on this.
Why Your Last-Name Pool Depends on Your Ethnicity
The single most important detail about last names is that they are drawn from a preset pool tied to the ethnicity you currently have — you are not free-typing a surname, you are rolling from a list that changes with your character's background. That produces two consequences players discover the hard way:
- Changing ethnicity changes your surname pool. A clan you were rolling for may not exist in the pool attached to a different background, so a purely cosmetic decision can move your buff options.
- A clan you land is not automatically permanent. Because the surname comes from the current pool, treat a good roll as something to keep rather than something guaranteed forever.
- Your first name is genuinely independent. It does not feed into the last-name pool at all, so you can iterate on it as much as you want without touching anything that matters.
Before rerolling your background for looks, check whether the clan you are relying on appears in the new pool — the last names guide lists the clan buffs and where they come from, and the ethnicity guide covers how background affects height as well. Those two pages are meant to be read together before you commit.
What Renaming Does Not Change
- Your nameplate colour or grade. That is generated separately and is not editable — see the nameplates guide.
- Your combat stats. No part of your name contributes damage, speed or health. If you want power, the levers are clan, style and height.
- Other players' recognition of your account. A rename does not reset anything about how you fight, so a name change made to escape a reputation will not work.
- Restrictions on inappropriate names. Renaming runs through the same platform filters, so a name that was rejected once will be rejected again.
