Variant is an unreleased (WIP) Gakuran fighting style described on the official Trello as a balanced-pressure, jack-of-all-trades style. Its perks include Crushing Force I (+10% posture damage), Guard Pierce IV (25% block chip), Resilience IV (45% grapple), and Heavy Hitter I (+5% guardbreak). It favors a Medium build. Early community tier lists project it around B-Tier, but that is speculative until release.

Last checked 11 September 2026 — still unreleased. Because this card is defined by its relation to Bulky, the check re-read both cards and also confirmed against post-update community trackers that neither style has moved out of the unreleased group.
Projected Role (Speculative)

Why This Is a Preview, Not a Guide
Released style pages here carry tested combos and a build recommendation. Variant has neither, because it is not obtainable and its defining trait is a relative one — how its values sit next to another unreleased style. Publishing a guide for a comparison between two unplayable styles would be circular.
What the board does tell us is unusual in a useful way: Variant is defined as an even spread of Crushing Force, Guard Pierce and Resilience relative to Bulky. That makes it the only card on the board whose identity depends on another card. Two consequences follow:
- Its balance is downstream of Bulky's. If the developers re-tune Bulky before release, Variant's numbers move with it even though the Variant card has not been edited. Any figure quoted for Variant today can be invalidated by a change to a different style.
- It is a role statement, not a stat statement. "Even" here describes a design intent — no spike, no hole — which cannot be turned into a tier placement without playing it.

What to Do Until Variant Launches
- Do not save rerolls. It cannot be rolled, so nothing you hold back is being invested in it.
- Check whether "balanced" is actually what you want. A style with no spike and no hole rewards consistent fundamentals and punishes nothing in particular. If you prefer a build with a clear win condition, the current specialist styles will suit you better — see the tier list.
- Watch the Bulky card as well. Because Variant is defined relative to it, a change to Bulky is a change to Variant. The Trello reading guide explains which column movement matters.
- Distrust any quoted number. If a page or video lists exact Variant percentages, they are not from the board.
This preview is re-checked on a fixed review cycle. If the card is still WIP at the next check the verification date rolls forward; if the style ships or is dropped, this page is rewritten rather than left to age.
